GreenInfo Network was created with the goal of helping public interest groups make the best use of GIS technology. While many organizations ask us to apply GIS to their issues, some use GIS themselves.
We can provide groups who use GIS with:
- Advice on choosing the right software for the task and the organization
- Design consulting for setting up GIS inside an organization
- Training at beginning, intermediate or advanced skill levels
- Ongoing advising and troubleshooting
The GreenInfo Network staff understands how non-profits work and can offer focused and friendly consulting on how to use GIS. We are careful to not apply a one-size-fits-all approach to GIS needs, and often recommend lower-tech (and lower-cost!) approaches than a full GIS implementation.
An example of this work is an assessment GreenInfo Network completed for the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, outlining their GIS needs in relation to the current and past projects as well as their future directions. The project included interviews with staff and consultants, and development of a recommended plan of action to improve the use of GIS in trail planning.
