Display maps: GreenInfo's maps are designed to get your point across - whether it's technical data or a basic view of a place or issue, maps need to be compelling. We create carefully designed images that reflect who you are and what you want to say, so that the people who view them will "get it" right away.
San Gabriel River Monitoring Stations Water quality is a major concern along the heavily urban San Gabriel River in the Los Angeles region. To support an extensive planning process in the area, GreenInfo has created a series of maps - this one shows defined drainage areas, monitoring stations and types of site drainage (pie charts).

AAPIP: Houston Metropolitan Area AAPI Change Total Count 1990-2000 Asian American/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) facilitate giving by and to Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. AAPIP requested GreenInfo identify such communities in Houston, TX. By understanding the growth and decline of the Asian population in the last 10 years, AAPIP can better harmonize philanthropic resources with unmet needs in the community.

Baldwin Hills Park Lands: Baldwin Hills Park Improvements 2001-2006 As the Baldwin Hills Conservancy works to convert the last large open space in urban Los Angeles to a park they have used maps to inform their board about progress on projects. The spatial display of their work allows viewers to clearly see the patterns of improvement and sections of the land that still need work.

Central City Neighborhood Partners: Westlake/McArthur Park Metro Station Linkages This display maps shows services and facilities within a distance of a rapid transit station. The colors and framing were designed for use in public presentations.

Muir Heritage Land Trust: Franklin Cayon Site Plan A site map to support planning for land stewardship on this parcel owned by a local land trust. The maps focuses attention on the parcel while also showing surrounding areas.

PACE: Para nuestros ninos; National Task Force on Early Education for Hispanics MapLos Angeles County, CA illustrate child care enrollment capacity for children 2-5, and percent of children under the age of 5. Hispanic/Latino early education was being analyzed for Para Nuestros Ninos.

Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy: Natural Open Space Preserves on the Palos Verdes Peninsula Major preserves have been acquired and improved through the hard work of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Display maps have been created to clearly define their holdings and the increadible progress they have made in protecting and preserving the peninsulas habitat for future generations. GreenInfo has also assisted PVPLC staff with GIS skills by creating map templates and standardized color palletes. As a result the conservancy now has the means to create maps with a consistant brand.

Smith River Alliance: Smith River Watershed The Smith River Alliance is a watershed based organization in northern California's Del Notre County. A turf map was produced to highlight attributes of the organizations region of interest. The map uses evocative cartography to depict the watershed.

Wetlands Recovery Project: Conserving Southern California Land and Water The Conserving Southern California Land and Water poster was created to help show the many efforts made by groups to help protect and improve the area.

The Land Trust of Napa County: Protected Lands of Napa County The Land Trust of Napa County has worked for the past 33 years to preserve over 52,000 acres of open space and agriculture for future generations. Every year GreenInfo updates the Protected Lands of Napa County poster to reflect new conservation projects.

Tri Valley Conservancy: Land Trust Parcel Tracking and Planning Map The Tri Valley Conservancy operates in the Livermore, Calif. region and is actively protected threatened farmland in the region. This poster-sized tracking map displays all protected lands data based on tax parcels and is regularly used by land trust staff for internal planning and public presentation.

Sequoia Riverlands Trust: Land Trust Easement Monitoring One of a series of maps prepared to assist the Sequoia Riverlands Trust with monitoring of its easements, this map shows the detailed property boundary and key features.

Community Conservancy International: Green Solution Maps These maps are just a sampling of many display and analysis products created by GreenInfo Network for an innovative project looking at ways of better linking greenspace conservation with stormwater management.

Sierra Club: San Gabriel Mountains, Proposed Wilderness Areas San Gabriel Mounts Forever is working to protect large areas of the national forest in Los Angeles county. In early 2009 legislators adopted Pleasant View Ridge and Magic Mountain as wilderness areas. The maps GreenInfo Network created are used for public outreach and education. Displaying the proposed boundaries along side campgrounds, picnic areas, and other publicly used sites allows the general public to be more informed of the suggested wilderness additions in the region.

Friends of the River: Wild and Scenic River Recommendations Depicting a segment of river that is eligible for designation as Wild & Scenic, this map is one of a series of over 20 page size products used by Friends of the River (FOR) in its advocacy for river conservation. The map also reflects close attention to creating a graphic "look and feel" for Friends of the River.

Fitzgerald Reserve BMPs Created to aid detailed planning work in California's Areas of Special Biological Significance, this poster size map shows how extensive amounts of data can be made legible for workshops, presenations and other events. The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) commissioned this map for use in a pilot project in coastal San Mateo County.

GIS data: Data about places can now be developed in so many ways. GreenInfo can help you research and find what you need, make revisions and updates in data you already have, or create whole new datasets by digitizing or geocoding (including using collaborative web mapping to let you and others contribute that data). GreenInfo is also the creator and publisher of the California Protected Areas Database (CPAD), the only statewide inventory of all parks and open space lands - find out more at www.CALands.org
Audubon California: California Important Bird Areas Working with Audubon California staff, Important Bird Area (IBA) locations were broadly identified and displayed over select demographic variables. The illustration of population density near IBAs allow Audubon staff to focus conservation efforts in areas that experience urban pressures. Audubon National is currently working with GreenInfo Network to define all national IBAs and expects to complete the work in late 2009.

Bay Area Ridge Trail Council: BARTC Atlas A 200 page atlas of aerial image maps has given BARTC staff access to a picture of the entire trail. Both existing and proposed trails are shown in relation to lands in public ownership and select base layers. The atlas is used for public outreach, meetings with elected officals, and internal reviews of potential trail alignments.

Bay Area Ridge Trail Council: BARTC Trail GIS This map shows the overall extent of the 500 mile Bay Area Ridge Trail. GreenInfo developed a detailed GIS system that segments the trail and creates a complex series of variables that can track progress in completing the trail.

San Francisco Dept. of Children & Families: Available Services by Supervisorial District Hundreds of services for families and children were geocoded by GreenInfo Network and then mapped in an extensive series of posters, for use by each county supervisor in San Francisco.

Friends of the Desert Mountains: Parcel Tracking Framework GreenInfo created a series of 50 map pages that enable Friends of the Desert Mountains to review land holding data and develop criteria for future conservation actions. These maps enable careful review of each area of the organization's activities.

GreenInfo Network - CPAD: California Protected Areas Database Inventory The Calif. Protected Areas Database is a detailed GIS inventory of parks and other protected open space in California. The 47,000 holdings in the dataset have been digitized by a variety of means, including manual drawing, incorporation of assessor parcels and integration of other agency data.

National Geographic Society: Light Intensity Changes, 1993-2000 Global data on lights visible at night was assembled and refined for for the Maps Division of the National Geographic Society. The data was used in environmental education posters and curricula.

Urban Wildlands: Beach Bluffs Restoration Project Urban Wildlands requested GreenInfo create a GIS database and set of corresponding maps of biological resources, geological resources, and restoration priorities for a section of the Santa Monica Bay coast. The slope of the North Study Area in El Segundo is shown.

Friends of Harbors, Beaches, and Parks: Green Vision for Orange County For over a decade Friends of Harbors Beaches and Parks has worked to protected important lands in Orange County. GreenInfo develops and integrates data for their countywide maps showing protected areas and future priorities.

Non Profit Insurance Alliance of California: NAIC Customers in California Thousands of insurance customers of NAIC were geocoded and depicted in this small poster map created to aid the organization in better understanding its customers.

Greenbelt Alliance: Lands At Risk Data Development One of a series of maps created to support a major assessment of lands at risk of suburban development in the San Francisco Bay region. A grid and other map elements assist field staff in defining exactly where threats to open space exist and documenting the type and nature of the threats. These ares were then digitized by GreenInfo Network for further analysis and mapping.

Spatial analysis and modeling: Using GIS to do detailed assessments of places and issues can be a very powerful use of the technology. GreenInfo staff have experience with building models that allow you to do on-the-fly "what if" scenarios, and with a wide range of geospatial analytics (hydrology, demographics, landscape dynamics, etc.).
CAVEC: Assembly District 13 For the redistricting efforts after the 2000 census, GreenInfo provided CAVEC with technical and mapping assistance. Working with Census 2000 data and the redistricting software extension to ArcView 3.2 new potential districts were evaluated on the fly. Once a group of stakeholders agreed on the proposed boundaries, digitial GIS files were provided to the government for consideration.

California League of Conservation Voters: Voter Registration by Party, 2002 General Election A series of maps illustrating voter registration and turn out in Orange County allowed analysis of 2002 voter results. The maps show areas of strong party affliation and turn-out rates compared to registration counts.

Center for Law in the Public Interest: Park Access for Children of Color Living in Poverty with no car access Identifying areas of Los Angels that are both park poor and disadvantaged has allowed the City Project to advocate for additional support of urban parks and recreation. A series of maps illustrates park access for residents along side key demographics such as population density, race/ethnicity, median household income, percent youth, and lack of access to a car. Parks per thousand calculations and charts were also created.

California Pan-Ethnic Health Network: Having Our Say - Priority Communities In order to rank communities CPEHN asked GreenInfo to map demographic, economic, and health indicators. Highlighted priority areas were defined as those with: low incomes, high levels of foreign born populations, concentrations of non english speakers, concentrated non-white communities, high levels of obese/overweight individuals, along with populations with high percentages of asthma, diabetes and high blood preasure.

North East Trees: High Priority Site Specific Projects Modeling of habitat and water quality for the Arroyo Seco wtershed management and restoration plan included data creation and map production. The resulting maps were included in the plan and used to illustrate important issues in the watershed.

The Planning and Conservation League: Poverty- Los Angeles A set of maps were created displaying the Proposition 12 Per Capita and Robert Zberg-Harris (RZH) Block Grant Projects displayed over census 2000 variables. Poverty, race/ethncity, and population density were all mapped.

Greenbelt Alliance: Smart Growth Bay Area GreenInfo implemented a GIS model of alternative patterns of future growth as part of Greenbelt Alliance's overall call for more effective land use policies in the Bay Area. This image shows the calculations before any display mapping.

Greenbelt Alliance: Smart Growth Bay Area The smart growth modeling done for Greenbelt Alliance was created in ESRI's Model Builder software. The model's parameters can be adjusted on the fly, allowing for quick assessment of alternatives.

GreenInfo Network: Viewshed modeling The areas in purple on this map are all visible from a collection of a dozen observation points, allowing prioritization of key properties for conservation, in order to protect scenic beauty in the area.

Presentations: PowerPoints, reports, display posters and more are all common ways our clients communicate their information and points of view. GreenInfo is very experienced in the design and production of PowerPoint shows, in helping you craft printed reports that get the attention you want and in making large format posters suitable for conferences, exhibits or office displays. We also create map products that are used in offset printing projects and publications.
Montery Pine Forest Watch: Proposed Additional Protection for Undeveloped Pine Monterey Forest This map was designed to show key opportunity areas near a major county park in Monterey County, California. It was created for a brochure publication making the case for acquisitions in this area.

BRBNA: Blue Ridge Berryessa Natural Area: Big Wild Undiscovered The Blue Ridge Berryessa Natural Area Conservation Partnership is a collaboration of nearly 75 partners working together to promote conservation of the natural and working landscape of the region. The BRBNA Undiscovered poster aimed at drawing attention to the natural beauty and recreational oportunities in the area.

The City Project: Park Access for Children of Color Living in Poverty with no car access, shown at speech At a press conference with the mayor of Los Angeles, the City Project used maps and data about lack of park access in Los Angeles county to underscore the need for more places to play.

California Resources Agency: California Legacy Project Confernce GreenInfo prepared a large series of poster maps for use at workshops and major conferences for the California Legacy Project, a multi-year assessment of priorities for protecting key areas of the state's natural heritage.

NRDC: Restoring the San Joaquin River A Powerpoint presentation of maps, a history of the San Joaquin River diversions through timelines and pictures, and annotated fly-through 3D videos to show each stretch of the river.

California State Parks Foundation: Impact of Proposed Toll Road on State Park Proposed toll road in relation to San Onofre State Beach - used by Calif. State Parks Foundation as part of a major public presentation on the negative impacts of the proposed toll road. The road proposal was eventually opposed by a key agency.

Bay Nature Magazine: Vision Fire Map Published in the quarterly Bay Nature magaine, this oblique view map shows the intensity of a major fire in the Pt. Reyes National Seashore. The tabloid sized map was accompanied by a story about the regeneration of the ecology of the fire zone.

Resources Legacy Fund: Wilderness Act Additions This page sized display map shows the major elements in California of a 2009 bill expanding wilderness areas throughout the nation. The areas designated in California were secured after extensive lobbying by wilderness advocates.

Northwest SEED: Atlas of Renewable Energy Resources of the West The Energy Atlas was created as a major publication and included a wide range of maps such as this one, all created by GreenInfo Network. GIS data was organized and then exported to Illustrator, and linked to the overall design created by Black Graphics

Land Trust Alliance: Best Mapping Practices for Land Trusts This large poster depicts the main types of maps needed by land trusts, and shows best practice examples of each type. It is used by the Land Trust Alliance at its annual conference.

Sierra Club: Sempra Energy Fossil Fuel Corridor As Sempra proposed development of a fossil fuel corridor from Mexico to Los Angeles via the "Sunrise Powerlink" Sierra Club has asked for maps to help illustrate the plan. Liquifed natural gas from Russia and Indonisea would travel through Mexico, and San Diego to a final destination in Los Angeles County. Showing the full "powerlink" helped to make San Diego residents aware that much (or all) of the power could be transfered through San Deigo and be used in Los Angeles County. The proposed route alsohreatened Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Sierra Watch: What We've Accomplished in Martis Valley Sierra Watch has worked to protect thousands of acres of at-risk land in Martis Valley since 2003. These lands are crucial for wildlife, water quality, recreation, and scenic beauty. As the pressures of development continue in Martis Valley, Sierra Watch aims to protect 7,000 acres more. GreenInfo worked with Sierra Watch to map their conservation footprint.

Save the Redwoods League: Publication Map This map was created from GIS data and converted by GreenInfo to an Illustrator file for use in a full color newsletter of the Save the Redwoods League.

Ocean Conservancy: Central Coast Marine Protected Areas In April 2007, the CA Dept. of Fish and Game adopted 29 Marine Protected Areas in the Central Coast region. These areas aim to preserve the long-term health of the ecosystem and the marine resources. GreenInfo worked with Ocean Conservancy to show the different protection levels within these central coast MPAs.

Database applications: In addition to map-based data, GreenInfo has strong skills in the design and implementation of full-featured database applications (both for your desktop and online). Sometimes connected to GIS mapping, sometimes on their own, GreenInfo database applications have the same fine attention to design as our maps and are made to be user friendly (even for non-database users).
Bay Area Ridge Trail Council: Trail Progress Database A FileMaker Pro database was created for the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council to track progress in completing the 500 mile trail. Project managers can enter recent activity on trail work, potential trail dedications, funding sources, local land owners, and monthly goals. The system links to a full GIS of the trail and also generates over 20 reports with details including: miles of trails dedicated to date, number of segements of trail per county, and any bike/equestrian restrictions on existing trails, and more.

New Deal Legacy Project: Database of New Deal Projects This trial database provides a management system for the location and attributes of key public works projects created during the Works Progress Administration under President Roosevelt. Internal functions include direct links to Google Maps for street location and views.

Pacific Crest Trail Association: Pacific Crest Trail Online Database GreenInfo created an online data management system tied to a Google Maps mashup which allows the Pacfic Crest Trail Association to show and track volunteer projects and trail maintenance status along the entire 2,600 mile trail.

Strategic communication: Most GreenInfo projects involve deciding what to communicate to whom, how. We're very good at working with you to refine this thinking before we launch into major data gathering, analysis or display mapping. We strongly believe that a good map is one that has been crafted to fit a particular need - and that means that working with you on a communications strategy is a frequent part of our work.
GGNPC: Trail planning process GreenInfo staff worked closely with planners for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the GGNRA to create a full day workshop aimed at securing agreement on priorities for a major trail system. Maps, mylar overlays and on-screen data viewing all informed the work of over 20 people.

PAD-US Partnership: PAD-US Partnership Planning Process A public-private partnership was led by GreenInfo Network in its efforts to define major improvements to how protected areas are inventoried in the United States. GreenInfo staff conducted research, led meetings, created a project management website and prepared final reports on recommended strategies.

Eastern Forest Partnership: Eastern Forests Poster This poster was used to define a full protection strategy and communications campaign for the Eastern Forests Partnership. Working with initial ideas from the Partnership, GreenInfo helped them expand their area of focus and used the design elements of the poster to establish their advocacy message.

The City Project: State Park Closures The California legislature through AB31 has determined that community park funds should be invested in communities that are park poor and income poor. This map shows park and income poor communities in relation to the 2009 proposed State Parks closures. The proposal would close three out of every four state parks and cut $143 million from State Parks' budget.

Ocean Conservancy: Oil Spill in San Francisco Bay - A Preventable Tragedy (video)This video was created in eight hours after a massive oil spill in the San Francisco Bay. In two minutes, it tells and shows a dramatic story about how early action to contain this spill could have prevented a major environmental tragedy. The video uses GIS data that is animated in Google Earth then edited in video creation software, and posted on You-Tube. Watch video

Detailed concentrated poverty neighborhood reports enable contributors and local nonprofits to make effective investments, creating a strong, vibrant and healthy Bay Area. Bay Nature: Explore Your Region Interactive MapBay Nature Magazine recently launched a new web portal for exploring nature in the San Francisco Bay Area. An important feature of the site is an interactive map that helps users to quickly find articles, places, events, videos, organizations and advertisers in a selected area. The Bay Nature site is built upon Plone, a content management system that allows editors to regularly add new articles and other content to the site. GreenInfo Network worked closely with the site developer to design a map that dynamically reads content from the Bay Nature database and displays new information in real time. Upgrading to an online database storage allows for quick summation and display of the data on an online map. National Audubon Society: Mapping Important Bird Areas The Important Bird Areas Program (IBA) is a global effort to identify and conserve areas that are vital to birds and other biodiversity. GreenInfo Network assisted Audubon with compiling, creating and organizing a nationwide IBA dataset. As part of this project GreenInfo developed a map collaboration tool for local Audubon chapters to review and update IBA data using a web browser. All revisions are stored in a centralized database and are available for download into a desktop GIS format at the end of the review process.
