Mapping for Pew Trusts

Map of Bermuda and Sargasso Sea
Global Ocean Legacy: Bermuda & the Sargasso Sea
Client:   Pew Environment Group

The Pew Charitable Trusts' Global Ocean Legacy Program seeks to affect understand of and policy towards the Earth's oceans. Program staff engaged GreenInfo to develop maps that support their internal and external activities.

Global Ocean Legacy, a project of Pew and its partners, aims to establish a worldwide system of very large, highly protected marine reserves where fishing and other extractive activities are prohibited. Program staff worked with GreenInfo to ascertain and represent the island coastlines, coral reefs, currents, bathymetry, and other important features. We visualize the environments so that they not only are accessible to policy advocates, government officials, and local residents, but also meet accuracy and precision standards for scientists. The initial lack of high-precision data for these very remote, tiny islands and surrounding waters makes this series of maps particularly challenging and particularly rewarding!
