Community Housing in San Rafael

Community Housing Opportunity Sites for Families
Client:   Marin Community Housing Action Initiative

In 2010, GreenInfo worked with the Marin Community Housing Action Initiative, a cooperative between Greenbelt Alliance and the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California (NPH) to do an analysis of development opportunity sites for families and seniors in San Rafael, California.

Our analysis was done using the Network Analyst extension in Esri's ArcGIS software.  After compiling locations of goods and services (medical facilities, grocery stores, public schools, etc.), we scored individual parcels based on their proximity (by road network) to each of these assets.  A score between 1 and 20 was given to each parcel, which allowed us to prepare a heat map of opportunity sites, then pinpoint large, undeveloped parcels as best locations for family and senior housing.
