Client:   Greater Los Angeles County Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (GLAC IRWMP)

As part of an overall project to update an Integrated Regional Watershed Management Plan (IRWMP), GreenInfo was asked by the project's chief consultant, RMC, to develop a lightweight web-based solution for sharing documents, files, and geographic data among the project's partners.

In 2011 the Greater Los Angeles County Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (GLAC IRWMP) asked GreenInfo to create a web-based system for storing documents and shapefiles, in order to centralize the storage and sharing of these documents.

The system stores two general sorts of data: ESRI shapefiles, and documents. Shapefiles are visualized on a map, so one can search by area and find datasets of geographic relevance. In addition to storing shapefiles, the system stores various documents such as Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and Adobe PDF documents. These documents can have a geographic location associated to them, so their geographic relevance is also visualized onto the map.

The resulting document library was very low-cost and yet highly customized to suit the planning needs.

Results: This document library has largely replaced their old habit of storing shapefiles on individual PCs, making the files more accessible to board members and planners.
