Prioritizing Health in Communities

Map of Ranking of Community Health
This map illustrates ranking of communities in California based on health and demographic factors.
Client:   California Pan-Ethnic Health Network

Securing health care for needy communities is a critical task affecting more than just health. To assist a large coalition in making their case for health care, GreenInfo developed analysis and depiction of key places in California.

The California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) established the Having Our Say coalition to help ensure that health care reform efforts address the needs of communities of color and that solutions provide equal access to coverage and services for all Californians. The coalition developed a methodology of ranking many factors, including demographics, health, insurance, fitness and open space access, creating an index by place. Over 50 organizations participated in the coalition.

GreenInfo was asked to transform these calculations into statewide and regional illustration maps as part of a 14 page report. We developed a basic design approach and a color scheme that successfully conveyed the analytical findings of the project, then produced a dozen maps for the final report.
